Rediscovering the love for nature.
The mid-to-late 18th century saw the creation of a new style of garden art. The architects of this were inspired by Lorrain and Poussin and they blurred the line between the garden and the open landscape. Garden scenes were composed in accordance with the rules of landscape painting with condensed elements, open spaces, attention to color, light and shadow as well as repoussoirs that frame the overall picture. The idea of the landscape garden was to eliminate the mathematical rigor of baroque gardens and to orientate garden design more towards what nature ideally has to offer in terms of views.
