Location through identity.
Along Koloniegasse and Karl-Morre-Straße in Graz, two buildings will work together to unify the existing elements and structures and establish a newly formulated street block.
In the Gründerzeit-style quarters, the individual buildings lining the streets are clearly discernable. They create a multi-faceted street view through different facade ornamentation, proportionality plus choice of color and material. We do not see these differences as pure formalism but interpret ornamentality and proportion through the functional aspects of the exterior spaces assigned to the apartments. The standard floors create a three-dimensional, usable “ornament” on the street side, which divides the building into a three-story plinth with a “roof landscape” recessed onto it.
