The external staircase on the facade connects the outside level of the ground floor to the roof level and serves as a direct connection to the office space on the floors newly added to existing building. In combination with the backlit Wever&Ducre logo, the stairs are easily visible from the highway and thus act as a visual highlight on the facade.
Due to its length, the staircase is subdivided into several sections with intermediate landings. This sequence of flights of stairs and platforms provides structure to the design of the facade with its existing gridded concrete elements. Additions, rotations and multiplications create a form derived from function, which is reflected both in the handrails and in the lighting concept.
